Large Hill

I got started on a large hill for wee monks in the 10mm monastery to inhabit.  My workroom is turning into a collection of 'work in progress' stations.  Hopefully, over the next week I'll be able to complete them.
Here is the start of the hill.  The 10mm base in the center is 60mm long.  It should be a large terrain feature in both 10mm and 28mm scale.
I cut the foam board using a wire cutter attached them with a new glue that I bought at the supermarket.   The glue that I usually use seems to be unavailable in South Korea at the moment, so I switched glue.  To my horror, I could hear the new German glue eating away at the foam.  Luckily it stopped after about five minutes.  No damage to speak of!

One thing about the other hills that I have made that has always bothered me has been the lack of contours.  While practical on the wargaming table, they always struck me as green mesas.  This time, I decided to try to get more contour and a natural feel to the hills.
With 10mm figures or Impetus style basing, you don't have to worry about your individually based figures falling down when on an elevation.  These days, my interest in 28mm mass battles has waned and I now use that scale only for skirmish games (read: SAGA coming soon!)
Modeling paste was used to make the hill more hill-like and less like a mesa.  I added some rock features made from Plaster of Paris and some boulders.  I'm not sure about the boulders yet.  They may get removed.
All that is left to do now is texture, paint, then flock!

  2. They sure are big boulders - I would remove them myself.

The hill itself looks fine and scales up nicely - are you going to use the Woodland Scenics washes for the rocks? I've tried it once and been very impressed with the result though I would have added colour to the plaster first just incase it gets chipped...

Sorry to read about the glue - been there and had that problem :-(

    Should look great when flocked.

  3. Yes, the boulders did seem a bit big. I removed them this afternoon. I only have the woodland scenics rock moulds. I'll keep my eye out for the washes. I never thought about adding color to the plaster. Any tips on how to go about doing that?
